AWARDS SUPPER AND HISTORY PRESENTATION

The PARK EXTENSION HISTORICAL SOCIETY held an entertaining evening at Park View Receptions to recognize architectural preservation achievements and hear writer/historian Robert N. Wilkins' speak about "Growing up in Edwardian Montreal."

La SOCIETE D’HISTOIRE DE PARC-EXTENSION a présenté une soirée divertissante pour célébrer deux réussites en préservation architecturales du quartier, et pour apprendre sur la vie dans l’époque de la naissance de Parc-Extension, avec Robert N. Wilkens.

Alain Charron, propriétaire du 625, rue Greenshields

L’immeuble, qui date de 1952, se joint à deux autres immeubles et à deux duplexes pour créer un harmonieux profil face au parc Athéna. Cet immeuble, qui contient 22 petites unités, se situe sur le coin de la rue de l'Épée. Dans les années 1990 un feu a créé des dommages importants, il est donc resté vacant pendant longtemps. Finalement, M. Charron, propriétaire de plusieurs edifices, la a acquis et soigneusementt rénové pour en donner une deuxième vie.

7110 De L’Épée. Founded in 1908, the church's present front dates from 1930 due to widening of Jean Talon. From 2005 and 2008, there were numerous discussions of how to maintain the building, inside and out. Exterior renovations to the east and north sides were a result of deterioration due to heavy traffic. Work continued through 2008 on windows, roof and chimney. Members’ loaned and donated around $100,000, plus over $60,000 for an elevator added in 2011.
